The Kimberley Dee cheekpiece prevents pinching of the lips and gives a solid feel against the side of the face. It also prevents the bit being pulled through the mouth. The release is slower than a Loose Ring and introduces some poll pressure.
The Leslie Mullen is a straight bar with 3 rollers and rotating side piece applies direct tongue and bar pressure, this is an ideal schooling bit as the rotating pieces prevent the horse from taking hold of the bit while keeping its attention on the bit.
