Marsh Carney Saddlery was established in 1980 by Marsh and Patricia Carney in the small town of Scone, NSW. After learning his trade under the watchful eye of John Charleton in Sydney, Marsh moved to the Hunter Valley to ride horses. It was there that he met his wife, Patricia—known as Trish—a veterinarian at the local clinic.
While Marsh worked the tools, Trish set about establishing the retail side of the business. Together, they designed and marketed a range of Australian-made saddles and strapping, continually refining their products into the trusted range available today.
As the manufacturing and retail sides of the business grew, Marsh and Trish determined that another outlet would help them meet increasing demand. In 1990, they acquired the well-established Hiscocks Saddlery in Tamworth, NSW. Together, they operated both stores, often with their three daughters—Paula, Belinda and Michelle—in tow.
The girls grew up helping in the family business, spending time in the stores and learning the importance of hard work, quality craftsmanship, product knowledge and personal customer service from an early age.
Marsh Carney Saddlery expanded again in 2004 with the acquisition of Riding High Saddlery in Dubbo. In 2005, their eldest daughter, Paula, moved to Dubbo, where she helped her parents manage and grow the business for many years.
In 2017, their youngest daughter, Michelle, returned to Scone following her overseas riding pursuits and joined the management team. Michelle’s husband, James, also acquired his saddlery trade skills under the watchful eye of Marsh.
Marsh and Trish now have four grandchildren—Sarah, Charlotte, Ollie and Zoe—who are also growing up surrounded by the Saddlery. The next generation is already becoming part of the family business, learning from those before them and bringing fresh ideas and new skills while carrying its proud traditions into the future.
Today, three generations of the Carney family work alongside their dedicated local team to source, design, develop and produce quality equine products for the Australian market.
The stores stock an extensive range of internationally recognised brands, including Justin, Resistol, Kimes, EzyRide, Bombers, Don Orrell, Hooey, Sabona and many more.
The family prides itself on working alongside its local staff to provide a knowledgeable, friendly and personalised shopping experience for its loyal customers. It is still not uncommon to meet a Carney in store while you shop.
Marsh Carney Saddlery is also a proud sponsor of many local and interstate events, clubs, organisations and individuals, continuing its long-standing commitment to supporting the equine community.
Our dedicated team is only a phone call away and is always happy to help, whether you are shopping in store or online.
